Baptism
“For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendant, heirs according to the promise.”

Catholic Teaching on Baptism
Baptism is the beginning of Christian life, commanded by Jesus Christ before He returned to His Heavenly Father. Through the waters of Baptism, we are washed clean from sin and the punishments associated with it. Because Baptism in a special way shares in the Baptism of Christ, at which the Father proclaimed Jesus as His Beloved Son, Baptism also bestows on the baptized the grace of being sons and daughters of God, and allows them to share in Christ’s role as Priest, Prophet, and King, giving all the baptized the gift and duty of offering sacrifice (by giving oneself to God), proclaiming the truth (by evangelizing and teaching the Gospel, especially to family), and building the kingdom of God on earth (by acting with charity and following the Commandments and Beatitudes).
